Geospace is the volume surrounding Earth, extending from the lower atmosphere to the magnetopause, where both terrestrial and solar effects influence the space environment.
The mission of the NRL Geospace Science & Technology Branch is to conduct a broad range of research to observe, understand, model, and forecast this important operational environment and its connections to its lower and upper boundaries.
Fundamental scientific research and the development of geospace products and applications are directed toward facilitating and advancing functional capabilities for the Navy/Marine Corps, and wider DoD that exploit this extensive region of the operational environment.
