Research Physicist Space Science Division, Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC |
The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is seeking candidates for a Civil Service position
The Space Science Division
of the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), Washington, DC, is seeking candidates for a Civil Service position for basic research in the
field of Middle Atmosphere Meteorology. NRL conducts an
active research
program in middle atmosphere science with emphasis on the chemistry and dynamics
of the mesosphere and upper stratosphere. There is a strong in-house research program using
2-D and 3-D
models to study the global circulation and the forcing and propagation of gravity waves. More information on our research program can be found at
http://uap-www.nrl.navy.mil/. NRL has begun an extensive effort to extend to about 100 km the upper boundary of the Navy Operational Global Atmospheric Prediction System
(NOGAPS), the Navy's primary global weather forecast model. This will require
development and integration of new NOGAPS algorithms that describe the dynamics, physics and ozone chemistry of the middle
atmosphere. We seek candidates for this position with a recent Ph.D. or equivalent experience in atmospheric science, a strong record of active research in middle atmosphere dynamics, and an interest in the development of this
state-of-the-art global numerical weather prediction
model. Experience in numerical atmospheric model development would be particularly useful for this position. Though based at
NRL DC, the successful candidate will be expected to spend time working on the problem at
NRL's Monterey, CA facility. The annual salary is expected to range from $42,328 to $79,305 depending on the qualifications and history of the candidate.
